ANDREA - PERUVIAN NATIONAL SOCCER TEAM STARTS RENEW QUEENS PROGRAM
The Renew Queens Soccer program will begin for the first time in late September of 2022 led by Andrea Gorroti. The heart behind the program is to connect families and offer the highest quality program to the community at an affordable cost. All are welcome and scholarships are available for low income families as well. This past week we interviewed Andrea to get to learn a little more about her:
WHEN DID YOU BEGIN PLAYING SOCCER?
I have been playing soccer since I can remember.
CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR SOCCER CAREER?
I started playing in school for fun, I really enjoyed sports! During high school I was playing a tournament, and a coach from a soccer club saw me playing and asked me to join their team. It wasn’t too long after that I was invited to the tryouts for the Peruvian National Team. I ended up being a defender and midfielder starter. Also, had the privilege to represent my country in the South American Soccer Tournament twice.
WHAT WAS IT LIKE PLAYING ON THE PERUVIAN NATIONAL SOCCER TEAM?
It has been one of my favorite experiences. I had the opportunity to be coached by a great team, meet amazing people, travel to different places to play soccer, and most importantly, those years of practice impacted deeply the way I approach life nowadays.
WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO NYC?
I moved to study my Masters in Intercultural Studies.
WHAT DREW YOU TO WORKING WITH KIDS?
My desire to see kids being impacted and transformed by sports. From physical health, to team work and discipline, there is so much kids can gain from practicing sports.
WHAT EXCITES YOU ABOUT STARTING THIS PROGRAM?
Im excited to have fun with the kids, to see their eyes go wide open when they score and to teach them not only soccer skills, but also life lessons.
WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES/INTERESTS OUTSIDE OF SOCCER?
I love going for walks with my family, baking, walking/hiking, traveling, and reading my Bible.
